Frequently Asked Questions

All You Want to Know Is Here.
  • Are your workers fully trained and security checked?

Yes. All Excel packers spend initially two weeks with our training supervisor within our purpose built house which is located within our warehouse. We have a full array of possessions at their disposal. Removal teams practice on our property, not our customers including packing and handling chandeliers, protecting and moving pianos, dismantling assembly and movement of grand pianos, making barometers safe for packing and transportation, dismantling and reassembly of long case clocks (grandfather clocks etc). They learn best practice for the safe packing of fine china and figurines. Its not simple packing that they learn – but how to pack so that damages are avoided when removal teams from around the world perform the unpacking.

  • Do you dismantle and re-assemble my bed, wardrobe etc.?

Yes, Excel team will dismantle bulky furniture items upon collection of your shipment at the origin should they not fit into the elevator or the shipping container. Once your shipment arrives at an overseas destination, our destination agent will perform basic reassembly of furniture items. If a furniture item is too complicated to be reassembled by our destination team, they would arrange a specialist to perform the reassembly at an additional cost. This is normally in the case of Ikea or modular furniture items.

For a local removal in Shanghai, Excel team will be responsible for disassembly and reassembly of your bulky furniture items at both origin and destination of your move, and these services will already be included in our service proposal to you.

  • Can I Move Jewelry and Other Valuables?

Yes. Items of extraordinary value such as jewelry, money, antiques and stamp collections can be included in your shipment, provided that you notify your local moving representative of these items before packing and moving day. It is strongly recommended that you carry irreplaceable and expensive articles with you or make other arrangements for their transport.

  • I am thinking of boxing up everything on my own, what are the pitfalls?
Some customers do this very well, however many find that they bite off too much given their busy lifestyles. They also forget to cost it out and find hidden costs appearing. You will not be covered for damages under any Insurance policy. Some companies will offer total loss only. Read our advice in the insurance section of the FAQs.
  • How Do I Make a Complaint When I Receive Poor Service?

Proper communication is essential when trying to file a complaint for poor service. Talking with us directly may be the easiest way to resolve any issues that occurred during the moving process. Our Customer Service Department is always there to receive comments as well as our senior management, whose details and contact details can be found in this webpage in case you deem necessary to contact them.

  • Most of moving companies take my fragile items to their warehouse for making crates, and some of my fragile items are already found broken during the transit from my residence to their warehouse. When and where would Excel Moving crate my fragile items to avoid the problem?

Once you confirm with Excel Moving, we would arrange for our carpenter to come to your residence before the move takes place, so that he could measure and note down the dimensions of each fragile item that needs to be crated. We would make sure that the crates are built before the move takes place, so our crew could bring the crates to your residence and crate those fragile items onsite. By so doing, your precious fragile items are well protected right from the moment they depart from your residence, and the possibility of damage in transit to the warehouse is greatly reduced.

  • Should I tip the movers?

Tipping is optional and should be reserved for movers who do their job right. Our movers always appreciate when they get a little something extra for a job well-done, but it is ultimately the customer’s decision. Our crew usually don't expect a tip but is appreciated when given. More than anything, it's a sign that you recognized their effort and thought it worthy.

Providing cold drinks, coffee or whatever is suitable to the weather and time of day is always appreciated.

  • How do you pack and protect fragile items for a long distance move?
At Excel, we understand that fragile items often have significant monetary and sentimental value to our customers. To protect them and continue to treasure them for years, it is important to take great care when moving house.

To protect your breakables from shocks, bumps and vibrations, we at Excel use a combination of right packing materials and packing methods. Blankets, towels and clothing are commonly used to pack fragile items, but these materials do not maintain their cushioning ability well. We invest in materials that will keep your valuables in perfect condition.

The packing materials we use to are proven to be effective include:

    • Sturdy moving boxes
    • Loose fill/packaging peanuts – designed to fill empty space in a box and prevent damage from occurring
    • Bubble wrap – used to wrap neatly around objects
    • Tissue paper – used to wrap around objects or be wadded into a box
    • Corrugated fiberboard – designed to provide structured cushioning
    • Original packaging – ideal to provide maximum cushioning for a boughtitem (keep them with you if possible)

Plates: We put one plate on a piece of packing paper and fold it over so that the plate is covered. Do the same with four other plates and stack them together. Place the stack on its side in a box padded with crumpled paper below and above the plates.

Glasses: We place crumpled tissue paper inside each glass, then roll each glass in a sheet of tissue paper. Add another layer of newspaper to each glass

Lamps: First, we separate the bulb and the shade from the stand. We wrap the stand in tissue paper, with packing paper filling any gaps and then lay it sideways in a box with bunched paper cushioning it. We wrap the light bulb in bubble wrap and the shade in tissue paper and store them separately.

We put FRAGILE stickers on boxes with breakable items in them. Also indicate which way up the box is to be moved and stored.

  • Do I need to empty my chest of drawers?

Providing the unit is sturdy enough then light items such as clothing, bedding etc. can be left in. Please remove any books, magazines, breakable items etc. Self-assembly furniture does not respond well to moving so this type of furniture must only be moved while completely empty.
